I have been accepted on a 6 week internship in the area of finance and international business to the city of Medellin, Colombia in July
Wellington
NZ and Colombia: This internship is very key in providing insight into how business is carried out in Colombia due to New Zealand's growing interest in creating stronger ties with Colombia. Last year a NZ delegation travelled to Medellin to discuss how NZ universities could create stronger relationships with Latin America. NZ are also trying to raise our profile in Latin America, in which we have opened a NZTE office in Bogota, Colombia. The Wellington Chamber of Commerce has also recognized that Colombia has one of South America's strongest performing economies making it an important country for NZ to connect to.
My Background: I am a BAS accountant in Wellington, studying to be a chartered accountant through CAANZ. My passion is to be immersed in the world of business mixed with travel/ different cultures and I have loved learning the Spanish language since I was 14. Fittingly, I completed my bachelor of commerce at Victoria University of Wellington in June 2013 with majors in Accounting, Commercial Law and International Business.
The Internship: I have been accepted to travel to the emerging innovative city of Medellin, Colombia on a 6 week unpaid internship starting July 2nd through Intern Latin America. The internship will be in finance and international business. This internship will open up many doors for my professional development, business insights and my Spanish language practice.
The Costs: I have to pay a programme fee of $3480 USD about ($5,500 NZD) plus flights of approx. $3,000 return plus travel insurance and cost of living while I am over there. The programme fee pays for my internship, professional development including DISC test and resources, accommodation and more.
Through this internship, not only will I gain international work experience while improving my Spanish, I will also bring back what I learn to New Zealand and share my experiences.
