Fundraising attempt to complete the Block Vandal Wall in Gracefield, Lower Hutt.
Lower Hutt, Wellington
The Block Vandal Wall is a Lego inspired artwork that has captured the hearts of many in the community.
It all started when the artist (Aidan Walbaekken) was driving past an old and and tired retaining wall in Lower Hutt and thought to himself, "Gosh! Those blocks look just like Lego heads!".
Aidan has gone on to paint 23 block heads on the wall now, with a focus on diversity within the wider community. The block heads have been inspired by both current affairs, and collective ideas from community members.
Covid was a hard time for everyone, which ultimately saw a pause to the Block Vandal Wall Project.
So where are we at now?
Aidan aspires to touch up the existing blockheads, and create another 40 of them. The material costs have mainly been covered by Aidan and a few champions within the community. Aidan will not take any labour costs from any donations fundraised.
We live in a time where we need a little more colour and happiness, both online and in the community. Aidan is driven by positive and collective community engagement.
A mural project from the community, for the community.
Money will be allocated to material costs for the project, such as PPE Equipment, Access solutions, Wall Preperations, Paint and Travel.
