Make/Do are community art workshops for refugees and migrants to build connections, develop literacy, and share skills and knowledge.
Auckland
Connect the Dots Charitable Trust strives to build individual and community capacity through the creative arts.
Organisations working with new migrants and refugees have identified a big gap in art opportunities for this audience.
Visual art making meets an important need for those whom English is a second language. It allows people to develop language and connections without depending on written or verbal communication, thereby giving them the space to feel successful, share stories and gain confidence.
Connect the Dots has developed a programme called Make/Do to work with these communities, running art making, and bringing in Maori and Pacific craft-artists, to help create a space where art and cultural art making traditions can be shared and celebrated.
We are seeking support for costs of venue hireage, art tutors, guest tutors, and art materials. None of the money raised will be spent on costs outside the programme (administration/marketing etc).
Connect the Dots Charitable Trust is committed to working with marginalised and vulnerable communities in Auckland. We believe the arts is a powerful tool for people to build confidence, leadership and teamwork skills and to create meaningful connections with other people.
Connect the Dots Charitable Trust was established in Auckland, New Zealand in 2014. Our mahi improves the lives of older people, and people living with dementia, brain injury or disability, through creative art programmes. We work with over 3000 people each year bringing opportunities for creativity, social connection and improved wellbeing.
