Connor Charlesworth Wants to Attend a London Academy of Performing Arts, Can You Help Him Achieve His Dream of Acting on the West End?

Auckland

Kia Ora,

My name is Connor Charlesworth, an 18-year-old student from New Zealand, and what I want more than anything in the world is to be a full-time performer on the stage or screen. I am a singer and actor and my goal and cause for this Givealittle page is to be able to attend a London academy of performing arts. Ultimately, I want to find work in musical theatre - on the West End, Broadway, wherever it takes me!

I have performed in a broad array of productions, both musicals and non-musical, including leading roles in ‘Assassins’ and ‘A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream’ and most recently in the title role of ‘Sweeney Todd’. I have been selected for the 2018 National Secondary Schools’ Shakespeare Company. Now, with five years of singing and acting at a high standard under my belt, I want to take my performing to the next level.

I am featured below:

Although there are good theatre schools in New Zealand, the prospective schools that I am looking at in London and the wider United Kingdom are in a class of their own. The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, for example, has many notable alumni such as Orlando Bloom, Daniel Craig, and Ewan McGregor just to name a few.

Auditions for places at these schools will take place in May and June 2018. I plan to travel to the UK in December to get established and audition for local theatre productions. Because I have not lived in the United Kingdom for three full years before applying, I am ineligible for funding from the UK Government. Funding from the New Zealand Government to study abroad, is not possible. I am, therefore, forced to front up the cost of everything myself to grasp at the opportunity to use the talents that life has given me. My family and I simply cannot afford it, so I am asking for your help for me to achieve my dream.

Use of funds

The three-year bachelor degrees offered at the schools that I want to apply to have a total cost of NZ $48,000 for the full course, (£29,000). This number will be greatly increased by living costs and "stationery". Anything you can give to help me reach my goal, no matter how big or small, is much appreciated. Thank you for reading.
