HELP us to purchase bulk stock for local foodbanks across the Greater Wellington region
Wellington
Unfortunately we found out at the start of this week that 1 of our grant applications were unsuccessful. The longer this shut down stays in Wellington the more funding streams will remain closed due to how they operate that we can apply for financial funding to continue to operate.
At Alert Level 4, KCA has had to change how we operate (now contactless) and have had to shrink our volunteer work force of nearly 100 volunteers to a very small bubble of 10. Our dedicated team are committed to ensuring that our partner agencies clients have access to the necessities of life.
As there is so much panic buying our food rescue program from the supermarkets has seen a significant drop. Many of the families we are assisting can't stock up and many have no work due to all hospitality being closed, or cleaning jobs that are not deemed essential, etc.
Whilst their employees may be passing on the wage subsidies it barely covers their day to day essential of food after paying rent and power.
KCA have been blessed and humbled that some large companies have donated items such as hand sanitiser for us to share - Colgate Palmolive. NZ Food Network have donated breakfast cereals to us.
KCA has now totally run out of some staples that we store for local foodbanks across the Greater Wellington region - Upper and Lower Hutt, Kapiti Coast, Wellington City and Porirua areas in our warehouse in Grenada North for free.
A small contribution of $5 will allow us to purchase goods in bulk directly from some of our food sponsors - Countdown and Foodstuffs. This will allow us to top up and provide our partner agencies with some of the items they would like us to supply:-
1) Butter/margarine
2) Powdered milk
3) Sugar
4) Coffee
5) Tea bags
6) Tinned fruit
7) Museli bars
8) Crackers
9) Pasta
10) Tinned tomatoes
11) Pasta sauce
12) Soup
13) UHT milk
14) Shampoo
15) Conditioner
16) Raisins
17) Tinned corn
18) Tinned vegetables
This week so far we have distributed nearly 400 banana boxes of food to local foodbanks across the Greater Wellington region.
Kiwi Community Assistance (KCA) based in Grenada North does the hard work behind the scenes - rescuing fresh food, clothes and goods and providing them to front-line charities so that they have the resources they need to help those most in need.
A small contribution of $5 will allow us to purchase goods in bulk directly from some of our food sponsors - Countdown and Foodstuffs to top up our partner agencies foodbanks.
