Kiwi Community Assistance

Kiwi Community Assistance rescues and redistributes food, clothing & essentials to support people in need across Greater Wellington.

Wellington

Fourteen years ago, a couple in Tawa watched a documentary on poverty in New Zealand—and couldn’t look away. That moment sparked the beginning of Kiwi Community Assistance (KCA). Since then, with the support of our incredible community, we’ve grown into a small but mighty team: 3 dedicated staff and 49 passionate volunteers.

In the past 12 months alone, we’ve distributed 345 tonnes of food and more than 3,900 banana boxes filled with clothing, shoes, and children’s books—essential items that have helped over 112,000 people across the Greater Wellington region.

But we can’t do it alone.

As the need grows, so does the cost of keeping our services going. Your support—whether big or small—helps us get vital resources to the people who need them most.

Please consider making a donation today. Every dollar makes a difference. Together, we can continue to bring hope and practical help to our neighbours in need.

Thank you for believing in what we do.

We need to move to a new home  5 February 2026

Did you catch the TV1 News story about us on Monday 2 February 2026?

Our Grenada North warehouse was sold last year, and more recently we were advised that the new tenant won’t be continuing the sublease. This means we now need to vacate the building and find a new home.

Relocating is a big and costly task. It will cost around $80,000 to move, as we need to carefully dismantle our chiller rooms, freezer rooms and all of the racking systems you see in our warehouse, then rebuild everything at a new premises so we can keep operating safely and effectively.

To continue business as usual and keep supporting our community, we really need help to fundraise this amount.

We’re incredibly grateful that Woolworths NZ has generously donated $26,000 to help kick-start the fund. This support means so much to us and gives us a strong starting point, but there’s still a long way to go.

If you’d like to learn more about our situation and why this move is so urgent, you can watch the TV1 News story here:

Thank you for taking the time to read and for any support you’re able to give.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause. I had the pleasure of helping out there a while back. What a great place run by great people - most of all Tracy. Hope this helps and plan to come back this year for another shift.
