Hawke's Bay

If you live in Hawke’s Bay, chances are you will know 'Coach' Craig McDougall, Founder of the Hawke’s Bay Youth Trust, Giants Boxing Academy, Dodgers & Saints Boxing.

Using his skill and passion for boxing Craig created a community programme to help people facing adversity, particularly children & young adults in difficult situations. Without hesitation Craig offers a helping hand to those who need it and selflessly dedicates his time and resources to support them.

Over the last 12 years Craig built a network to provide a safe place for youth which the wider community & Government agencies now connect into, to improve the lives of our youth. His community work has seen him named Hawke’s Bay Person of the Year, a Kiwi Bank Community Leader & a Vodafone World of Difference recipient.

Craig has just been diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. This means he & his beautiful family need our help as he steps in the ring against this horrible disease.

Craig’s cancer is challenging and the best chance of beating the odds lies in a specialist cancer clinic in Mexico (Sanoviv Medical Institute www.sanoviv.com). Craig is currently undergoing chemotherapy, with surgery booked for November in NZ however he hopes to benefit from a wider range of treatments overseas.

Asking for help isn’t something Craig is used to, or comfortable with, however we have persuaded him to allow us to do so.

Use of funds
