WHO WE ARE

Crimewatch Christchurch, also known as Papanui Crimewatch, is made up of a group of volunteers who assist the police in making our community a safe place to live. We act as the 'eyes and ears' of the police in the wider Papanui area, and we are part of the nationwide organisation Community Patrols of New Zealand (CPNZ).

Many of our patrollers are retired, some are Police Recruits awaiting training, and in time will move onto the Police College, and others are members of the public wanting to do their bit in keeping their community safe and free from crime.

Papanui Crimewatch carry out regular vehicle and foot patrols, working closely with the police by being seen, reporting suspicious behavior and vehicles, and assisting the public in any way we can. We focus on 'hotspots' in our area, and complete regular tasks given to us by the police.

The 'Mailrun' is a daily task where we are entrusted by the police to take important documents to the central police station, and other stations in our area. On top of these tasks, we also assist at vehicle accidents, crime scenes, public events and help during disasters.

We patrol many businesses, schools, malls, parks, industrial and residential areas. So if you live in, or have a business in the our area - chances are we have kept watch over your premises and neighborhood at some stage over the past 30 years.

OUR AREA

We have the largest area of the Christchurch patrols, meaning late nights, and many hours of dedication from our volunteers.

Urban Patrols (morning and evening, daily) - Redwood, Casebrook, Papanui, Bishopdale, Burnside, Avonhead, Fendalton, Merivale, St Albans, Shirley, Mairehau...

Rural Patrols (morning and evening, daily) - Spencer Park, Brooklands, Kainga, Belfast, Harewood, McLeans Island, Christchurch Airport and surrounding areas...

HOW ARE WE FUNDED

All of our patrollers are volunteers. Whilst we assist, are highly valued, and work alongside the Police, we receive no government funding. We rely wholly on donations and sponsorship.

WHAT IS OUR GREATEST NEED FOR FUNDING

Our greatest need currently is new vehicles (3) to replace our current fleet which clock up over 3000km per week.

Once this goal is achieved, we have ongoing costs regarding everything that is needed to keep the Patrol operating effectively. Uniforms, vehicle maintenance, first aid kits, specialist training, defibrillators, torches, are just some of the necessities of our patrol.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

We appreciate you considering giving to Papanui Crimewatch, and in doing so please know that you are making a difference, and doing your bit to keep our community safe.

Major sponsors are most welcome, with some businesses currently benefiting from having their brand on our fleet of vehicles.

Thanks

Updating Our Vehicles  30 September 2018

We are currently fundraising to update our 3 vehicles which are in desperate need of replacing.

Our 3 vehicles clock up over 3000km per week, with our rural patrols coming up against extremely rough terrain during the Rural shift.

Sponsorship is most welcome, with some businesses benefiting from their branding on our vehicles. With both Rural and Urban patrols operating morning and evening patrols, this is great exposure for these businesses.
