Help stop bullying and ostracisation in New Zealand schools by supporting Child Flight's Curious Minds mentoring program
Northland
Child Flight is working with a Professor from the Waikato University on a program called Curious Minds-Possible Worlds. We started the program in 2015 in Kiataia Primary School (Decile 1). Our trial was supported by Brendon Morrissey, the school's principal. His support for the program has spurred us on to develop the program into a full package which includes establishing peer mentoring. We believe in students mentoring their peers (P2P) under strict guidance from adults. This develops empathy and leadership in the mentors and helps troubled students who would not otherwise seek help. The research and development of the program and the teaching will cost Child Flight about $45,000 per annum. Please help us during our development stage so that we can kick start the project and gain empirical evidence that can be taken to the Ministry of Education for support in future years.
Child Flight Charitable Trust is working closely with a specialist (Professor) in the development of Curious Minds. The Professor has been teaching classes which we are following closely with the view to eventually taking over. Our role will be to teach Curious Minds, enroll mentors & work with them alongside a teacher aid. We will also network with social workers and health specialists that can advise. In certain cases Child Flight will pay for professional help for any student that exhibits a serious risk to themselves or others. Thank you for your support-Chris Jordan (CEO)
Child Flight Charitable Trust has been operating for nearly 6 years. It has given away flights to over 700 disadvantaged kids throughout New Zealand. Our mantra is "giving disadvantaged kids a 3D view of their world". We are busy planning more flights this year for a wider range of disadvantaged kids. We have chosen to offer our services to the Cerebral Palsy Society hoping to raise funds for them.
