Help Kalo, Nina, Christopher and Soloman rebuild their home, gardens and small, family-run business after Cyclone Harold.

International

Malog Bungalows is a small, family-run business in the Maskelyne Islands, Vanuatu. In true Ni-Vanuatu style, Kalo, Nina and their sons Christopher and Soloman welcome guests with warm smiles and kind hearts. Those who are lucky enough to visit this paradise are treated to snorkelling secret local treasures with dugongs and other wonderful wildlife, camping on small nearby islands, sailing the crystal clear seas in traditional dugout canoes, bushwalking and delicious organic food.

The small, eco-conscious business had just started finding its feet when Vanuatu was devastated by Cyclone Harold, which hit in the middle of a global pandemic and economic recession. With strict travel restrictions imposed worldwide to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, the family have now lost their source of income and livelihood. This, in addition to facing the devastating impacts of Cyclone Harold, which tore through the buildings, gardens and homes.

The family now face a slow journey to rebuilding what was lost - buildings, furnishings, and re-establishing gardens to provide food to eat. They not only need to meet their own basic needs, but hope to rebuild the business to provide a sustainable source of income in future years.

This is just one family's story, from one Pacific Island nation. It is critical at this time, as we face a common viral enemy, that we band together more than ever before - our money is only as valuable as the good it can do in this world. As many of us are fortunate to have an income, through working in essential services, online, or governmental support, it is a time to reflect and give back to those who have not been so lucky.

This page is to crowd-fund to help Kalo and his family rebuild what has been lost. Every dollar counts! If you are not able to financially contribute, you can leave a review on Facebook or Google, or bookmark the website for your next getaway, once this is all over.

My grandfather knows Kalo and his family well and has spent a lot of time living at their bungalows in Vanuatu. We want to support the family and business to get set back up after the hurricane.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
