Please help us raise money for Frank and his family in Tonga who lost their roof during the recent Cyclone Harold
Auckland
In the early hours of 9 April 2020, tropical cyclone Harold strengthened to Category 5 and struck Tonga's western coastline. Packing winds of up to 260 kilometres per hour (160 miles per hour) it cut power in parts of Tonga and police said at least three tourist resorts north of the capital, Nukualofa, had been reduced to rubble. In addition, some homes have had damage in these areas as well. A friend and seasonal employee of Sea Change Eco Retreat, Frank Lea'aetoa, lives with his brother and his brother's family. The roof over the back of their house, where the kitchen is, was torn off. This has also caused damage to the interior part of the house because of the rain. We would like to raise money to help Frank and his family to repair their house. Any money left over will go to neighbours and others in the area in need of help. Also, because of Covid-19 Lockdown, they are not able to work. Tourism for this year, which is a huge part of their economy, will most probably not be happening. Therefore, they are in need of financial help not only to do these repairs, but more importantly to buy food at this time.
I am a friend of Maria's and visit Tonga every year to teach a Pilates Retreat at Sea Change, so I know Frank and we want to help him and his family and friends out after the cyclone
Primarily the funds will be used to repair damage to Frank's house. Any surplus will be shared amongst neighbours for food and repairs during Covid-19 Lockdown in Tonga
