Supporting Dan and Riz when they need us the most! As a village we can do amazing things, life-changing things to ease their current burden.

Auckland

A tale of villainy, battle and endurance! In a not so distant past an evil curse was cast upon a bearded warrior hero, a larger than life viking look-a-like with a heart of gold and an artistic talent of epic proportions. With his amazonian-esque partner and wildling children by his side he fought to defeat the curse, slaying it with breezy determination and a Hasta La Vista baby!

The family, friends and village rejoiced in the news that the curse was destroyed and life resumed for the ginger-warrior and his fair maiden, their two little babes and menagerie of animals. Cut to today and The Evil has returned and is trying to amass an army to defeat our hero.... sounds like a movie right, one you might stumble across late at night... well it's not, this is the story of Dan/ Coxy/Dan Dan the Tattoo Man... partner, father, son, friend, colleague and all round righteous good-dude!

This family, a link in the chain of our lives, got the news that no-one wants to hear not once but twice.....2.5 years ago this awesome human was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Dan was treated with radiation and chemo and amazingly the tumor vanished and he was cancer free. Until now, with the horrible news that it had not only come back, but had spread to his liver and was now stage 4. Dan has had surgery to remove both the lesions on his liver and colon and was due to start chemotherapy Monday Aug 3rd, sadly, our hero received some devastating news on Thursday last week from his CT. The MRI from Monday revealed that 15 more tumors have grown on his liver in the 7 weeks since surgery. This is a crushing blow but Dan has the fight in him!

After days of calls with surgeons and his oncologist, and an updated plan, Dan started his chemotherapy today (Wednesday Aug 12th). The Chemo will a much higher dose than originally planned and there's an extra drug in the mix too. They aren't sure how long he will be on chemo for but at this stage they will test how he is responding after 3 months (possibly 2 if he's struggling with the side effects).

This page has been created to allow us all to support Mr & Mrs Warrior AKA Dan and Riz and their little ones when they need us the most- whether near or far, as a village we can do amazing things, life changing things to ease the burden this challenge brings. Dan is the primary earner for his family- his work bringing joy, pride and closure to so many through the art of tattoo. This is where we can help, allow Dan & Riz to spend their energy fighting, healing, loving and raising their two awesome kids. Allowing them to breathe a little bit easier when they need every breath.

They will fight and we will be right there standing beside them, giving our strength, cheering the wins, loving and hoping! So whether it's the cost of a coffee at your fave cafe or more, this loving family will be so grateful for whatever financial support you can offer.

Much aroha to you and yours

Gigi & Karlie

Another positive result!  20 December 2020

A pre-christmas update on my lovely husband 🥰

Dan had a scan done just over a week ago to see how things were going considering we had removed the drug with the worst side effects, and added in an immunotherapy drug.

The results are still good! The tumors are either shrinking or staying the same. Woohoooo!!

We also discussed the next step as his 6 months of chemo is due to end at the end of Jan. Because it became so aggressive so fast after surgery, his oncologist recommended another 3 months after this but at a lower dose (removing another of the drugs) & continuing with the immunotherapy. This will give us a good indication as to wether it has slowed down enough to take a break without ending up back where we were 5 months ago.

So things keep plodding along as usual with us (our new usual at least) but with a spring in our step as we have another good result from the scan.

We also want to keep thanking everyone who has shown us support the past 6 months. Through messages, home baked snacks dropped off to keep the kids happy, care packages or donations - we could not have gotten this far without you all. And a special shout out to Troy Gibbs and everyone who participated in the Illuminati Tattoo Studio flash day which was done for Dan and our family! We are so grateful to have such an amazing community backing us through this scary ride.

Love to you all xox

The picture is from our wedding day a few weeks ago - something we are so happy to have been able to finally do. And eternally grateful that Dan was feeling well enough on the day 🥰
