Daniel Williamson is excited to wear the silver fern when representing New Zealand at the World Rowing Championships in Lithuania in August.
Auckland
My name is Daniel Williamson, I am a year 13 student at Kings College.
I was introduced to rowing four years ago and my love for the sport has been growing since my first stroke. After my first season I knew rowing was the sport for me and I have had a dream of representing my country ever since.
After training tirelessly for the last 12 months and having a successful season, I was given the opportunity to trial for the New Zealand Junior team. After a week of trials I was named in the bow seat of the Junior Men's Coxless Four to compete at the Junior World Rowing Championships this August in Lithuania.
I will relocate to Lake Karapiro at the end of May where I will train at Rowing New Zealand for eight weeks with the other members of the NZ Junior Team. I will continue my studies at St Peters School, Cambridge.
The Team departs for Lithuania on 23rd July where we will train and acclimatise for 10 days before competing in the regatta which starts on 2nd August.
I look forward to wearing the silver fern and representing my family, school, community and country with pride.
I am involved because I am the proud father of Daniel. After many many training sessions on the water and in the gym over the years Daniel's rowing journey has now reached the elite level. Passion, dedication, commitment and an uncompromising attitude towards the sport of rowing has enabled Daniel to develop into a mature young man. All we need now is a little financial support to help him achieve his dream and wear the silver fern.
The tour to Lithuania coats $7500 which includes airfares, food, accommodation, boat hire and uniforms.
The cost of living and training at Lake karapiro for 8 weeks is $2200.
Training camp comes to an end 22 July 2017
The plane leaves tomorrow! After 8 weeks of intense training we are only one day out. The last 8 weeks haven't been straight forward. I was temporarily out of the boat with a minor injury to my wrist which was very quickly treated and as a result had me back out on the water with my crew in no time. The boys and I have had some really solid rows which has built our confidence leading into the world champs. We have even had the opportunity to train with the NZ under 23's and elites who as you may know are some of the best rowers in the world. I feel extremely privileged to be surrounded by these athletes everyday and to learn from them. My crew has thrived in the competitive environment and each of us have been, and continue to, improve. Thank you again to all my donors. Your generosity has meant that I have been able to direct all of my focus into my training knowing that the finances are taken care of. Thank you everyone for your support. I will update you again just before competition starts in Trakai.
Many Thanks,
Dan
