Help Jacob and the hundreds of kiwi students unable to access the student loan system and are effectively locked out of tertiary education.
Methven, Canterbury
Meet Jacob our 2021 Deputy Head Boy and Dux award winner. Jacob has dreamed of studying to become an engineer at the University of Canterbury since starting at Mount Hutt College. Unfortunately Jacob is not a resident despite his families best efforts and will have to pay International fees of over $40000 next year. If Jacob was to obtain a Student Visa he still is unable to access the student loan system for 3 years. Jacob and his whānau are hardworking kiwis but they cannot afford domestic fees and living costs. This is Jacob's story. His story is our story. His story is the same as hundreds of students across Aotearoa every year.
It is time that something is done to help those that are locked out- our kids, the future leaders of our communities. To support this we have set-up a Give a Little page to help Jacob and others like him across the country to access Tertiary Education in 2022 and beyond. Our group hopes to set-up a society to provide long term support for these learners through scholarships and ongoing mentoring.
Please contribute to our Give a Little. Every dollar you contribute will support Jacob and many other students to realize their dreams of going to University and other Tertiary institutions.
Mount Hutt College is a Year 7-13 coed school situated in the picturesque township of Methven at the base of Mount Hutt Ski Field the gateway to numerous outdoor opportunities. Our roll is around 500 students and serves a predominantly rural community.
Initially the money raised will be used to provide scholarships for Jacob and students in similar situations to access Tertiary Education. Long term we will set-up a society that provides ongoing mentoring support and scholarships to students like Jacob.
