Let's rally around David and lift his spirits during this very difficult time.

Wellington

David started his hairdressing career at the prestigious salon Buoy Hairdressing in Wellington, he was nominated as NZ hairdresser of the year three times, and was also a finalist at the Australian Hair Expo Awards. David then moved to New York where he worked as a session stylist. His profile appointments included New York fashion week shows for Chanel, Givenchy and Victoria Secret and others. David then joined LA based international hair team and travelled the world designing and performing in hair shows and facilitating creative workshops for hairdressers globally. He has worked with celebrities in entertainment and fashion including Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Khloe Kardashian and Anna Wintour.

Moving to Hong Kong in 2016, his life took a turn after a few years. Dealing with transferring of visa’s, health issues, Covid, Hong Kong protests, homelessness all led to him being locked up for months, in solitary confinement in a Hong Kong prison for being an overstayer.

David made it home in 2024, and was then diagnosed with incurable liver cancer. No surgery, chemo or radio was on the table, as it's too late.

"I just hope to be able to go and see old friends I haven’t seen in a long time. Or even write my memoir while I’m still stable. I’d also like to be able to pay for my own funeral. It’s the last thing I want to is leave my family in debt. In Samoan culture, a funeral can cost a lot of money as gifts are given out as thanks to people who come to grieve".

Let's help David.

David, you were such a lovely man, with a kind heart and an open nature. Also the only person I trusted to cut my hair, resulting in many trips to and from NZ and overseas to have you cut my hair over the years. I will miss the hair cuts and the lovely chats. Rest well. Xx
