Imagine if the only way to deal with your period every month was to sit on a piece of cardboard at home until it was over...

For too many girls globally, this is the only option they have. If the choice is food or feminine hygiene, the choice will always be food. This forces girls and women to make whatever sanitary solutions they can just to stay in school. These solutions (newspapers, corn husks, leaves, rags) lack any sort of dignity and often have severe health repercussions.
The Days for Girls, Christchurch Team is part of the global charity Days for Girls International. Our aim is to assist women and girls in third world countries as well as within NZ, to stay in school, or go to work during menstruation by providing them with their own unique, sustainable feminine hygiene kit. Our simple solution gives days back to the girls. Days of work. Days of dignity. Days of education. Days that change their lives.
I'm Reetah Mitchell, Co-Team Leader of the DfG, Christchurch Team. We are passionate about the education of girls. It's outrageous simple biology is one of the main issues forcing girls out of eduction - not just in developing countries, but also our own. A dignified way to deal with your period shouldn't be a luxury, it should be a right.
Days for Girls kits are made up of shields, interchangeable liners, underwear, face cloth, soap, zip lock bags (for washing in areas with water shortages) all presented in a colourful drawstring bag. These kits cost $15.00 to produce and last for three years
100% of all funds raised will be used to purchase fabric, underwear, face cloths, soap and other sewing supplies for the kits to be produced by volunteers.
