Newtown's Death Ray Records is a much-loved institution faced with closure from higher-than-expected bills! Donate to help Apa out!
Wellington
Apa Chappel's shop Death Ray Records is an institution in the Wellington music scene and a vital part of the Newtown community. Apa provides not just a place to dig for records but a community hub and a support system for emerging and established artists. Death Ray is facing a rough patch and Apa told everyone the shop might have to close at the end of the financial year - but the shop's many friends have jumped into action. Contributions go straight to Apa to help him keep the shop going - see below for details.
Here's the Stuff story on the challenge facing Apa and the shop: http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/87190308/is-this-the-vinyl-countdown-wellingtons-death-ray-records-facing-closure
Here's Apa's post on the Death Ray Facebook page explaining exactly the challenge they are facing:

Funds raised will go directly to Apa's account. They are to help Death Ray meet the tax bills described in that post - taxes from last year, provisional tax for the new year, and GST because Death Ray is now GST-registered. Any excess will go into the store's piggy bank to set against future expenses.
This appeal is set to end at end of February 2017 - donations from Feb will arrive in Apa's account in March, just in time for the end of the financial year, as mentioned in his post.
I'm just one of Apa's many friends, pitching in to help out.
