Trans woman raising funds for facial hair removal
Manawatu / Whanganui
Removal of facial hair is a huge step in a trans woman's life, one made a bit difficult on a student income.
My face (and everything really) can cause what is called Gender Dysphoria. Simply put, Gender Dysphoria is the 'discomfort' caused by physical or social elements of oneself not matching the gendered features of their gender identity. However, discomfort is most often a euphemism.
My face is a big source of dysphoria for me, one that can't be treated by hormones or weight loss. Shaving throughout the week to the degree that facial hair can't be seen when out in public causes razor burn (and scarf weather will end eventually). Even if it's not visible, I can still feel a lot of it. It causes a lot of stress, and I can't imagine just how right it would feel to one day have that part of my face feel as smooth as the rest. Removing it, while expensive, is readily available even here in Palmerston North.
Caci Clinic gave me a quote and game plan in my consultation with them. They don't want to start until I've been on Hormone Replacement Therapy for at least 6 months, and at the time of writing this I have yet to receive the opportunity to begin. This means that there is a decent opportunity to raise funds in advance.
Caci Clinic want to do 8 treatments of laser, once per 5 weeks, costing $250-300 each.
Update: As of 27/05/16 I have started hormones, so depending on ongoing financial situation I will be able to start the laser sessions as early as December 2016 :D
