Cardiac Defibrillators gifted to every rugby club in New Zealand. A 24/7 community resource.
Taranaki
WOULD YOU HELP IN A HEARTBEAT
34 year old father of two, Henrich Fourie, hit the ground dead following a cardiac arrest after a training drill at the Coastal Rugby club grounds in Rahotu, Taranaki last May.
6:30pm on a Tuesday night rugby practice took a shocking turn when teammates turned hero’s as players rushed to set up the clubs onsite defibrillator and bring a team-mate back to life. Every second counts. 111 is on its way; but that will take time.
March 9th 2023 - TVNZ's Seven Sharp and Carolyn Robinson tells that story.
How fast you could run to the club rooms and back if a mate’s life was on the line? Medical emergencies don't wait for the club rooms to be open, so every defibrillator will be secured on the OUTSIDE of the club rooms to be available to the community 24/7.
"Emotions were high as we thought we were losing him - it was touch and go until we got the unit going and the shock administered. 30 seconds later he was back with us." said Club Captain Kelvin Weir. ONE DEFIB, ONE BUTTON, ONE SHOCK.
A life saved is worth a million times more than the $2000 invested in Heinrich's club. It was the second time in less than two years that a Taranaki club player’s life had been saved thanks to a community defibrillator. Rugby clubs are often the heart of a community so your gift will also provide small towns with the only defibrillator they have. THANK YOU
