In the interest of transparency, I post here recent bank transfers to Deo's Uganda account. This is over and above the previous transfer of UD$500 on 12.4.19

Thanks again to all donors. Deo is on the road to recovery but progress is slow alas.

I hope he gets well enough to work again - there's no social security in Uganda! (The pic was taken last year during our visit, and well before he was attacked.)

    THANK YOU FOR HELPING.

  • more progress

Two months after this attack, Deo is steadily improving. He still has headaches and still suffers some balance problems but is able to walk more freely.

I'm hoping he'll get well enough to go back to work within a month or two as the long rains are ending and the tourism season will be cranking up soon. However that outcome is still uncertain as he's no longer a young man, and employment is casual and very competitive.

Although somewhat unsteady on his feet, Deo is now able to get about a bit; and his texts are making more sense. So it seems as though he's on the mend. Still having severe headaches and very bad dreams though.

THANK YOU to all who donated. I transferred all the remaining money (plus a bit more, making US$500 this time) to his bank account yesterday.

  • Thank you all so much.

Deo is at home and being looked after by his sister, and a neighbour, John Katabaire. I have sent $1000 via moneygram for his immediate needs (hospital costs and school fees) and will follow this up as funds permit.

Deo has been discharged from St Francis Hospital Nsambya. I'm waiting for an update from his son Michel regarding Deo's general condition but we now have the various invoices for hospital care.

I'm still checking through these, but as I understand it at present we should be able to cover most of his hospital costs. School fees and living expenses during recovery are another matter of course.

    Thanks to all donors.
