If you would like to provide help for Devyish Superette's family, the most practical support is getting them back into a safe home.
Wellington
On Sunday 24 March, a sudden fire burst out in the upstairs living space of Devyish Superette, which completely burnt away all the family's belongings leaving them only with the items they had on them when they left the premise.
Luckily my mother made it out of the property with only minor smoke inhalation and was given the all clear from Wellington Hospital, but sadly the family do not have any contents insurance to reclaim any of their belonging.
Right now they are staying in my tiny townhouse which is made for two people, and now need help to get back on their feet, find a new home and get a semblance of the safety and comfort they once had at Devyish Superette. They had been at Devyish Superette for at least 25 years, providing goods and services to locals in Kilbirnie, 7 days a week.
Sadly this is not the first time that my mother and siblings have had to go through such a tragedy, as it was only 2 years ago when an armed man entered the dairy while my mother was working, and now I want to help them find something that does not endanger their life.
I know that many of their precious memorable items cannot be returned, but would be very appreciated if I can get the support of the local community to get my family back on its feet after this disaster and move on to a new chapter in their lives and return to a sense of normality.
I am the eldest son of the family, and am currently giving them a home to stay in temporarily until they can find something more long term.
The funds will be spent on providing clothings, food, beds, electronics, computers for studies, housing replacement and general necessities.
