An operation will save my best friend's life.
Tauranga Taupo, Waikato
My name is Shane. I left home at 16 and have been living in my car or on the streets since. My family is my 5 dogs. Diesel I have had since I was 18 and he was 1. He is now 14. The photo is of him, and I am in the background cuddling his brother Bruno who we met recently - after 11 years apart.
Diesel has a condition called Laryngeal paralysis. This is when, if he gets too excited, the valve in his windpipe won't always open enough leaving him gasping for breath. It is very frightening for both him and me as he struggles to breath and his tongue turns blue. Otherwise, the vet tells me he has a strong heart and is in good health. We have so far managed his condition, but he is having more episodes with Winter coming on. Yesterday, it was so bad, the vet did a tracheotomy and informs me Diesel needs an operation to fix the valve too - in four days time.
People have been very generous with their time and discounts already but I now owe $1,000 to the vet ($500 which I have paid off today), and the next procedure will cost $3,500. I could sell my car but this will only go some way to pay for Diesel's operation but then I will have no where for my dogs and I to live, nor anywhere for Diesel to recover. Please can you help me pay for the operation for Diesel? He and I would be so incredibly grateful. Please can you help me give Diesel back his quality of life and me my best friend. The vet believes, with this operation, he could survive a good few years as he is very strong.
All funds raised will be spent on the current vet bill and the bill for the surgeon to preform an operation for Diesel's faulty windpipe. Anything extra will go towards accommodation while Diesel recovers.
