Our well known and much-loved school caretaker is dealing with a medical challenge.
Those who know Doug, know that he is an intensely private man and the last thing he would want is for his business to be spread across social media. So we are not going to delve into his business here. Take it from us - this is going to be a long road.
Reluctantly he has agreed to us setting up this page because he is needing expensive medication and the cost is near the 110k mark. We know that the community will be wanting to rally around to support Doug. He is a quiet man who just gets on and does things for his community and his school. Let's dig deep and support this good sort.
All funds are paid into the school's account. All funds will be available for Doug's treatment and related expenses. Any leftover funds will be given to Doug and the family. The school's accounts are audited by BDO so you can have 100% confidence that this campaign fund will support Doug and his whanau to deal with this challenge.
About us
Bombay School is a full primary, nestled in the Bombay hills, south of Auckland. We are a rural school that is anchored in its traditions and also future focussed.
Use of funds
Treatment costs are expected to be $110 000 for an unfunded wonder drug. Doug's specialist is starting off with a chemotherapy drug. He then will make the decision between Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) and Opdivo (Nivolumab). There will be other related expenses too. Our target is $140 000. Recovery is going to be a long haul.
