Waihi Beach School - Digital Equity Project - Chromebooks in Classrooms

$1,005 of $40,000 goal
Given by 7 generous donors in around 6 months

We are working to reduce inequities for our school whānau by increasing equity with digital tools in our classroom environment.

Bay of Plenty

By increasing equity with digital tools in the classroom environment, students have access to better outcomes in education, which will continue to contribute to better outcomes in life. Reducing digital inequity contributes to the intergenerational challenges that our whānau face. Access to the global networks and digital citizenship through digital tools and hardware (chromebooks) is limited due to our lack of funding which would increase the inequity for our whānau.

As a school we are always trying to improve equity between our students. We find that some of our students (due to the external or systemic factors above) quite often do not have access to technology at home like other students within our kura (school). To solve this we want to provide digital tools (chromebooks) into our classrooms. Increasing the number of chromebooks in our classrooms allows our students an increased equitable access.

Our project budget is $36,435, however this may change depending on the cost of the devices when funds have been secured. To date we have raised sufficient funds from Valder Ohinemuri Charitable Trust, Cansurf and Rotary Club Katikati which has allowed us to purchase 21 devices.

About us

Waihi Beach School is a small rural town setting, 15 minutes south of the Waihi and 13 minutes north of Katikati. Founded in 1924 the school catered for a small community, changes from development has increased our population in recent years.
