Disruptive Performers would like to produce a show that addresses the topic of bullying and the effects it can have on its victims.
Northland
Disruptive Performers is a new theatre group in Whangarei. Our aim is to fill one of the gaps that exist in the current scene by encouraging youth led performance and performing shows which are not necessarily 'popular' - including performing hard-hitting and confronting shows and topics - something which many other theatre groups shy away from. We aim to embrace local writing talent and alternative performance methodology.
We also want to create a group that nurtures and encourages the talent of local performers in an environment that allows them to take risks and develop their craft, while having fun!
For our first show we would like to produce The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty by David Calcutt. This play addresses a very serious issue that still affects many people today... BULLYING. It shines a very real light on what affect bullying can have on it's victims and even the perpetrators. Bullying is not okay and by performing this show, we hope to encourage people to think and talk about a subject that needs to be addressed and stamped out.
The cast for this show is made up of 18 local performers ranging from the ages of 14 years-old to 50 years old. More than half the cast are teenagers who not only have a real passion for performing, but have also faced some form of bullying in their lifetime.
The funds raised here, will be used to produce our show which is planned for November/ December 2020. Any surplus that is received, will go towards ensure that Disruptive Performers can keep growing and supporting local performers for many years to come.
