PPADT is raising funds to train Zach as Jo's assistance dog. Jo Butler suffers from motor neuropathy, and Zach will help her be independent.
Auckland
Jo Butler has motor neuropathy caused by her lupus, which has been progressively deteriorating over many years. Zach, a young golden retriever, is training as Jo's disability assistance dog. Zach has a nice calm temperament and a real willingness to learn. His basic training is solid, so he now needs his more advanced training to enable him to help Jo. He loves to help Jo and will help her with many everyday tasks. He is learning to wear a mobility harness which helps Jo to walk and will enable her to spend less time in her wheelchair and have fewer falls. He will pick up items she drops, and fetch named items for her (the phone etc). Zach has begun to alert to a medical condition Jo has, enabling her to take preventative action before things progress.
A fully trained Zach will enable Jo to continue to work in domestic violence which she has done for over 15 years. Donating to Zach's training is a chance to give back to Jo after all the giving to the community she has done over the years in both paid and voluntary capacity.
Should we raise money above the amount we need for Zach's training, we will put it towards the next dog we train.
Jo is a client of Perfect Partners Assistance Dogs Trust. We oversee the training and certification of Disability Assistance Dogs like Zach. We will administer the funds we hope to raise in this campaign.
The Perfect Partners Assistance Dogs Trust (PPADT) is a not-for-profit organisation, based in the greater Auckland region, established in 2007. We oversee the training and certification of disability assist dogs throughout NZ to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
