Disabled Preschooler Twins Need a Suitable Vehicle

$1,785 of $6,000 goal
Given by 27 generous donors in 11 weeks

Family of disabled toddler preschooler twins require a van suitable to transport an electric wheelchair and the family.

Wellington

Isaac is a four and half year old little boy with Cerebral Palsy, which affects all four limbs. His twin brother has Down Syndrome. Both preschoolers are active and happy in their own chaotic ways.

Isaac cannot walk by himself unaided but can cover very short distances with a walking frame, but only on very flat ground in uncrowded environments. But he soon becomes exhausted, and if he gets knocked he's unable to prevent himself from falling. He's unable use a manual wheelchair as he only has full control of one hand.

Isaac has recently been provided with an electric wheelchair. However, this brings a new challenge with the wheelchair's transportation. His parents' current vehicle is not suitable to transport the heavy wheelchair, or to provide practical or safe access in and out of the vehicle. This means he's not able to use the wheelchair away from home.

Further funding is available for a vehicle, along with savings, and the sale of the unsuitable car. However the money available is not sufficient for a suitably large van that is big enough to transport the twins, their teenager sister, parents, and all the equipment required. The van will need converting to accommodate the wheelchair, therefore it needs to last at least ten years to make the cost of conversion viable.

This request is to make up the difference between current funds and the price of a suitable van to transport his new wheelchair. This will enable Isaac to take part fully in life, like any other little boy.

Thank you for any assistance you can give.

Use of funds

Money raised will help buy a vehicle suitable for at least the ten years. Any surplus will be gifted to the Wellington Early Intervention Trust and Riding for the Disabled. Both charities helps children with disabilities and special learning needs.

Thank you  26 November 2019

Thank you everybody for your support so far, it's much appreciated. We're getting closer to making life a lot easier for Isaac and the whole family. Isaac has been enjoying using his power wheelchair outside at home. It will be so nice for him when he can explore other places easily when the very heavy power wheelchair can be transported safely and loaded in and out of a suitable vehicle safely. We have extended the end date to allow extra time to raise funds, so please spread the word. Thank you :-)
