Fundraising for Kotoni who has Leukemia, by sponsoring his uncle to run and complete a marathon.

Mangere Bridge, Auckland

Doni (Kotoni or Gordon in English) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia just 4 days before his 22nd birthday, August the 22nd 2024. He is a very humble and dutiful young man, Tongan born and Auckland raised from ager 10. He is currently undergoing his first round of chemotherapy. Prior to this he was working fulltime as the breadwinner for his family, providing for and supporting his single mum, who has two teens and two under 5 to look after. The Dr has written a letter stating that he won't be back at work till March 2025, which means he will lose his job. I have a goal to complete the 8th Continent Marathon, January 19th 2025, and am looking for sponsors please. All proceeds with go to Doni and what he needs for his full recovery.

I am Kotoni's Uncle, by marriage to his fathers sister Tina, pictured here. We have known and supported Doni since birth. My wife and I manage Harmony Pasifika, which is a Charitable Trust providing counselling and therapy.

Use of funds

Support for Doni in his recovery back to full health through good healthy nutrition, appropriate care and rest, and natural treatment (consulting a naturopath to focus on good organic nutrition, vitamins, possibly ozone therapy).. Support for his mother and dependents.

Marathon Effort  21 January 2025

We did it. Uncle Alex managed to complete the marathon on January 19th as promised and recently Kotoni has completed his chemotherapy. At the end of the race Kotoni was in the better shape and was there to hold his Uncle up. For Doni 4 rounds of Chemo appears to have cleared the Leukemia which is cause for celebration. Time to focus on recovery and building heath and vitality.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
