Help the people of Quibdó rebuild after the earthquake. Every donation, no matter how small, can make a difference.

Auckland

I've always said that Quibdo is a forgoten town by the government, and we feel that now more than ever.

On the morning of the 11th of August 2026, a magnitud 7.4 earthquake shaked Quibdó affecting the whole communicty and many... many families!

I've always joked about being the only person from that region in this area, but now, it's a very sad feeling... However, I know that for those of us, who are very far away, it is incredibly difficult to watch from a distance when knowing that the people we love are facing difficult situations.

I am currently living in New Zealand. Life took me to the other side of the world, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities I have had here. But no matter how far away I am, Quibdó is still part of me. When something like this happens, the distance feels enormous. I wish I could simply get on a plane, go home, and help everyone myself... Unfortunately, I don't count with those resources.

But even when I'm in NZ, there is something I can still do.

I can bring people together and do everything I can from here to help the people who need it most.

These are my family, my friends, the people I grew up with, and the community that helped shape who I am today. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a real difference to someone who has lost their home or everything they worked so hard for.

If you can't donate, please share this page. Every bit of help counts!

100% of funds raised will go towards families who needed.

Mauricio Rios Jaramillo's involvement (page creator)

The people from Quibdo, the people I grew up with, even though life has taken me far from home, they are still my people, and I want to do whatever I can to support them.

Use of funds

Funds will be passed onto my brother, Carlos Andres Rios Jaramillo, who has lived in Quibdo almost all his life. He'll get essential items (groceries), building materials and labour to fix damaged homes. We'll get in touch directly with those who need help

Update about Quibdo's situations 16/08/26  16 August 2026

First of all, thank you to everyone who has joined this cause and given a little to help Quibdó. Every contribution will definitely make a difference, and I honestly cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support.

The plan is to keep collecting donations until 28/08. Once the funds are available on 25/09, I will transfer them to my brother in Colombia so he can use it to help as many affected families as possible.

As I post this update, we have raised NZD $1700, which is approximately COP $3100000. To put that into perspective, New Zealand's minimum hourly wage is NZD $23.95 ($14.04 USD), while Colombia's minimum hourly wage is approx COP $7295 ($1.77 USD). At around NZD $1 = COP $1850, your contributions go a long way in Colombia. What might feel like a small donation here can make a significant difference to someone in Quibdó.

At the moment, Quibdó and other affected areas are receiving a huge amount of support from different parts of Colombia and international organisations. It has been amazing to see the incredible solidarity and generosity shown over the past few days, and that includes every single one of you.

I have attached Quibdo's situation report from the morning of 15 August, I apologise for the poor translation of the images.

Thank you again for standing with my hometown, thank you for making us feel that Quibdó is not alone!
