2500 Kms, 50ccs , 2 Brothers, 1 Goal Raising awareness and lots of money for the prostate cancer foundation by completing an epic adventure.

Waikato

So here’s the story: We are two brothers born and bred in the Waikato, Sam & Eli Thomas. We finished school, we studied, and we got jobs... but we just wanted a little bit more from life. So we decided it was time we got off our butts, left our offices for a couple of weeks and travelling to the other side of the world, all to raise awareness and money for the Prostate Cancer Foundation by completing an epic adventure.

Whats the plan: Let's be honest. No one could ever accuse us of playing it safe, so it had to be EPIC. Something to make people go, “Wicked!”. So the plan was hatched to take two 50cc scooters and travel the length of Vietnam, over 2500km of third world roads. This is no Sunday ride; it's 2500km of pot holes, break downs just waiting to happen, mountain passes and monsoon rain in a country where we can't even understand the locals. Not to mention we're on motor bikes with about as much power as our Mum’s kitchen blender.

The Dong Project: What’s up with the ‘Dong’ we hear you ask? We wanted to make it memorable in every way shape or form and to do this we needed an awesome name. The Vietnamese currency is the Dong (which appealed to our school boy sense of humour) and considering we’re doing this in aid of raising money and awareness of the the most common men’s cancer - prostate cancer - which of course affects YOUR dong!

Wouldn't it be easier to forget about The Dong Project and do some roadtripping in our own car in New Zealand or somewhere a bit safer? Yeah, maybe, probably... but where's the fun in that!? So we are accepting the challenge to sit for 10 hours every day on a scooter on our not-so-speedy tour through Vietnam for charity.

It all kicks off soon, very soon. At the start of May we head to Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam, and from the moment we land its all go. 2 50cc Honda Cubs and a backpack is all we are going to have to make it the length of the country. Our glorified blenders will see us travel over 2500km inland and on the coast to all the way to Hanoi.

Let´s do this! We invite you to follow us on our blog, facebook and check out our crazy crazy daily video diaries so you don’t miss out on the action! We promise great pictures and great stories. We are crazy and like to show it, trust us!

We Want You And Your Support

This trip requires a massive amount of planning, and we really can’t do it without your support. We will be driving through harsh environments and possibly fighting for survival (or at the very least our sanity). The easiest and fastest way for you to help us is to donate, supplying us travel materials, advertising, marketing or just spreading the news, giving names of interested sponsors or simply sharing some advice. We would love any support! Even a FaceBook-like is great!

We are relying on you to spread the word! Tell everyone you know. Tell your parents. Tell your kids. Tell your church, mosque, temple, synagogue, or place of non-worship. Tell your grandparents. Tell Andy and the boys from work, and even your boss and those other guys in accounting. Tell your aunts and uncles (even the ones you don't really like that much but you had to invite them to your wedding anyway..) Tell yourself in the mirror. Tell your significant other during pillow talk, or better yet whisper it in their ear while they're asleep. Tell your neighbours and your bridge club and your yoga class. If it has a pulse we want you to tell it about what we're doing and how they can potentially help. The more people we have on board supporting us the closer we are to realizing our dream and helping some fellow human beings in the process.

Everything we raise will go to charity, but the more the better so please dig deep and help us raise money for and awareness about the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

As a Corporate Sponsor

For those of you out there who are potential corporate sponsors we would love to hear from you. If you get on board we will definitely return the favour with branding, daily videos and shout outs to our sponsors. Who knows, we could even brand the event or some challenges along the way after your business. Picture it now … ‘The [your company name here] Dong Project’! You tell us what you want and we might just be crazy enough to do it.
