  • Final update

      23 April 2020

I planned to send a final update with video of grand opening ceremony however world events have put paid to that. When schools resume in Kenya our boys will be safe and sound in their new dormitory thanks to you. Stay safe, keep distance, and Kia Kaha (stay strong in Maori for overseas contributors). Kia Kaha House is the name. Thank you. Sonia.

Instead of our school facing closure, look at the photo. Everyone is so grateful for your help and kindness. Today is the last day of our appeal but a video is being made of the boys talking about their new home and I will post that when finished.

Job done! That's what I love about Kiwis, Aussies, Americans, Japanese, English, Chinese. Thank you.

(Does anyone know Margaret from Colorado? I received a donation of books from her but don't have contact details.)

Target reached and still a week to go! The building is progressing despite heavy rains in Western Kenya. The boys have moved into the dining hall and the old dorm has been demolished. More photos coming soon. Thank you.

  • Two weeks to go!

      27 January 2020

I don't have any more pictures to add at the mo but John, the director, says the roof is going on soon. We have done so well in raising over $9,000. I thank every one of you. Every dollar has contributed to our (almost) success in reaching our goal of $10,000 and Saving Our School. Only two more weeks to go, so if you know anyone who might be thinking about it, give them a nudge. Thank you. Sonia

They are building the new dorm around the old one so the boys have accommodation in the meantime.

The amount is creeping up. Please share this page if you can. The appeal ends 10 February and we are so close.

  • $8,000

      6 January 2020

On the basis of $8000 in the fund, we are starting the build because the government inspectors are coming next week.

Everyone is so excited, Nobody can quite believe it. John is already planning the opening celebrations in March which will include a trip for the Kibera Hamlets students to Migori, singing, dancing, acrobatics, parents, food and a soccer match between Kibera (primary) and Migori (highschool), with some ring-ins such as John, who played for Kenya, in the little kids team. There will be a girls' and a boys'match. I'm going to put my name down for assistant referee and whenever the big kids look like scoring I'll shout, Offside!

Of course, you are all invited.

Thank you so much for your support of the cause. I find myself with tears in my eyes most days at the kindness of friends, and strangers.

If I haven't thanked you personally, sorry. Some days the donations were coming in thick and fast and I lost track.

We are nearly there and still a month to go!

I'll post progress reports and photos when I get them.

Thanks again from all of us here.
