Offender was blind drunk, no licence, no WOF or Rego and tried to flee. Victim on an invalids benefit due to being an amputee and no leg.
Auckland
My beloved neighbour was stopped at the lights on Friday night around 9pm and a drunk driver plowed straight into the back of her. Wrote her car off. He must have been blind drunk because he did not even break.
He has written her car off, had no insurance. He then tried to flee the scene of the accident, but was chased down by witnesses and stopped once his car putted out.
She has had the car for 18yrs with no incident and third party insurance would not cover this because he smashed into her. She is on an invalids benefit due to disability and has been crying all weekend. She lives on her own and is fiercely self-sufficient, never asking for help but always offering it to others when she can.
This looser has not only robbed her financially, but also of her ability to get around independently .
I am a neighbour/friend
Funds will go towards the purchase of a new car. It is a long walk to a bus stop and not easy when on crutches.
Car donated, but needs modifying 15 August 2018
Pearce Brothers Motors in Grey Lynn were kind enough to donate Barbara a car which she is extremely grateful for. The money that has been donated will go towards the following modifications: An accelerator pedal fitted to the left side of the brake pedal and the original accelerator pedal modified to clip on and off. As Barbara is a right leg amputee, she drives with left foot. Also in this car the handbreak is a foot break which makes it difficult and will need to be adapted to a hand break lever.
In the past these modifications have cost over $1000
