Dwight's Unfortunate Adventure

Dwight is seven years old and loves Paw Patrol, Super heroes, Minecraft, the Titanic and anything to do with natural disasters.

Last week, Dwight had an ‘unfortunate adventure’ which started out with a stiff neck, weight loss and a fever (39.7 C / 103.4 F) that just wouldn’t go away. He spent 4 days in hospital, had a general anaesthetic, a CT scan, an ultrasound, x-rays, infusions and several blood tests.

Travel insurance does not cover their situation and the New Zealand healthcare system only covers New Zealand citizens and permanent resident and visitors from countries with reciprocal arrangements.. Having just arrived from the Philippines late last year, the Liguid family are not yet permanent residents. New Zealand has no reciprocal health care arrangements with the Philippines. This means his parents, Marie and Joel are facing a bill of several thousands of dollars to pay for it all; a hard task for anyone.
