  • The road is long

      8 September 2020

Here we are still on the journey to resolution on our long running struggle to save our homes. Our Environment Court date is set for the first week of December. There are only six families represented at Environment Court as all others were required to withdraw their support for opposing the plan change as a condition of selling their homes. And they only sold their homes because of the pressure and bullying from Council with a plan change to remove our existing land use rights. We represent the interests of every other NZer who’s future could be at risk in similar situations. The process we have been through is wrong and should not be inflicted on any other NZ community. A precedent such as this should not be made uncontested. People living in the red zoned areas of Whakatane & Ohope, or any other area of NZ potentially at risk from natural hazards should sit up and take notice. This might be you next!

WDC rolls on relentless. Another beautiful home gone again today. Environment court appeal to the plan change is underway. We are looking forward to being able to make our Councils accountable and to have our voices heard by a fair and impartial judge. This case is precedent setting, our homes today, where next tomorrow?! Thanks for your continued support. Kia kaha e tu Awatarariki
