Send Leo to build an Earthship!

$335 of $350 goal
Given by 8 generous donors in 12 days

The Permablitz B.O.P. wishes to send an 'emissary' to Earthship Te Timatanga to learn more about community input/natural building techniques

Bay of Plenty

Earthships are fully independant habitat which provide for the needs of human beings. This unique design of passive solar house built from waste materials fits within the wider umbrella of natural building - a very handy tool in the Permaculture toolbox.

The Bay of Plenty permaculture community (united by a love of Permablitz!) wish to send a member of the community to an Earthship build in the Coromandel and are seeking small donations to achieve this.

Check out the build! Earthship Te Timatanga (http://earthship.co.nz/building-in-nz/coromandel-earthship/)

Give a little or a lot - every bit helps :)

Leo Murray's involvement (page creator)

The 'emissary' will be Leo Murray, an active member of the permablitz community and permaculture designer.

Leo has started the Bay of Plenty's first ever organic waste collection, aiming to address the huge amount of bio-degradable waste (about a third of total waste) we send to our landfills. In his other life, Leo is DJ Mufasa. Mufasa has been booked to play at Prana Elemental festival - coincidentally close to the Te Timatanga site.

Unfortunately Leo will be taking time off work to attend the build, so the extra $350 to volunteer on the Earthship compounds the cost of missing work.

Earthship build going well!   26 February 2015

Kia ora everybody! Leo here, sending this email from Te Timatanga Earthship build.

I am learning so much abut cob construction, mudbrick, rammed tires and thermal mass. Have been doing plumbing as well, and designing the planter system and grey water/black water cycles. I am camping in a nearby forest of kahikatea, kanuka and ferns. It's full of beautiful birds also!

I was asked to give a presentation on permaculture and last night it went really well. I went through the 'invisible structures' of permaculture - community, society and political structures, green finance and alternatives to the banking system, land access and stewardship. The level of conversation has really risen since the talk and everybody is really humming on collaboration and positive change.

Thankyou all for your contributions I really really really really appreciate it! We are just $15 off our goal which is so exciting!

Hey Leo...I am grateful that you can take time away from daily life to go up for a week. Let's plan a time when you return, when you can report what you learned to the design guild...or maybe at the next permablitz on 15 March? Cheers Catherine
