Support the future generation of conservationists in Vietnam by creating an ecotourism trail for educating students & community members.
Waikato
Help us to create a much needed education resource for ecotourism students in Vietnam!
I'm a University of Waikato graduate currently volunteering for AusVols in Vietnam to develop the new ecotourism degree at Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF). I work with a team of passionate research scientists and am privileged to teach many bright young students. The new ecotourism degree at VNUF is endeavouring to train the future generation of eco-tour guides, operators and consultants. We want to offer students practical conservation knowledge and tour guiding skills. To do this we want to create an ecotourism trail in the 100 ha of restored forest on campus. The ecotourism trail will provide information on Vietnam's rich biodiversity and conservation challenges. The trail will be a great resource for the local community including local high schools and primary schools. Many of our students come from rural communities and ethnic minorities, the training offered through the ecotourism trail will support them to take skills and knowledge back to their communities to develop ecotourism opportunities and work in protected areas. We currently lack funding to establish this much needed resource, so friends and family I am asking for your support!
If you are planning on visiting this beautiful country in the future you will have to add this trail to your to do list, the VNUF team and students would love to give you a tour :)
We are applying for funding support though international grants as well, our goal is to raise $15,000 NZD in total. Every little bit counts, so please help us get the ball rolling for our students!!
I'm in Vietnam volunteering for Ausvols to support the new Ecotourism degree at VNUF. We want to create an ecotourism trail on campus. Funding & resources are limited so we need support to develop and purchase signage + booklets
Funds would be used to: 1) design and purchase ID signage for native species (200+) and signage with key conservation messages (10+), 2) design and print supplementary booklets. Surplus will be used to purchase equipment and resources for students
LIFT OFF!! VNUF Ecotourism Trail 19 August 2020
Just a quick update for you all: On Saturday the first 40 plant I.D. labels were installed for the VNUF Ecotourism Trail. The team and students are excited to get the project off the ground and will continue to develop the trail.
