Raising funds to support the NGO Kay Garnay for Nepal to run various programmes, some of which are teaching english literacy for women.
Waikato
Kay Garnay for Nepal is a Not-for-profit NGO operated out of a small historic village near Kathmandu called Changunarayan. This NGO has been involved in various community-based activities since their consecration last year, such as street clean-ups; shelter building after the quakes; stray dog vaccination and sterilisation programmes; education for kids; computer literacy programmes and now an english literacy course for nepali women. I wish to help fundraise for the education programmes specifically the computer literacy programme and english literacy programme, to enable the employment of an english teacher and also the purchase of laptop computers.
Here is a detailed description of the latest education programme:
Kay Garnay for Nepal is a recently opened nonprofit agency working to uplift the people of Changunarayan area in Nepal. The organization has been lending a hand in several different sectors from warm clothing drives to building shelters. It has been established with the first priority being to return Changunarayan Village.the magnificent tourist site, for both domestic and foreign tourists alike, that it has the potential to be. The temple, central to Changunarayan village, is a tribute the lord Vishnu and holds an important place for Hindus. This temple and ancient village is a UNESCO world heritage site. Although Changunarayan temple was established in 323 AD, its significance to Hinduism has roots that go as far back as the ancient scriptures. Many tourists are fascinated by the beautiful temple, intrinsic natural views, hospitable local people and a bustling art and handicrafts industries.

Kay Garnay for Nepal emerged with the aim of uplifting the economy and alleviating the poverty of the local people. The women’s initiative project is about to being set up to use the carpet, thanka painting and the computer science industries to bring training to the local people in order to provide a better lifestyle. The training will include high quality carpet weaving, knitting woolen hats, socks and gloves, thangka training, website and search engine optimization, etc. The project will be concerned more on the carpet manufacturing and computer science in this first phase of the project. Our thanka painting school is established, but is in need of relocation due to the earthquakes. The knitting project will begin as we get ready for the fall season in Europe and America. However, we have a contact who
wishes to contract a line of products with us.
According to Central Bureau of Statistics, the total population of Female is 16,457 out of 32,522 dwelling inside the Changunarayan municipality, which includes several surrounding villages. The main occupation of the people is subsistence farming.
Although several women’s development organizations have launched programmes for women’s empowerment, INGOs come and go usually leaving unfinished business in their wake.We are here to assist and stay. We are willing to work with any organization worldwide in which we all would benefit in helping the human kind.
These organizations(INGO) have invested huge amounts of money for women in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and health sectors, but due to the lack of supervision, monitoring and marketplace it doesn’t last for long. Equipment is generally abandoned with the women still needing training as the INGO returns to their home country. Abject poverty is still more than 30% in Changunarayan, having an adverse effect on the Health of children, pregnant women and families. According to the District Health office children below 5 years of age are at risk from such health challenges as malnutrition, dehydration, etc. The devastating twin earthquakes on April 25 and May 12 have substantially worsened the economic condition of local people.

I am a donor for Kay Garnay for Nepal and have worked with shelter building in Nepal; have had input in fund-raising for pregnant women in a resettlement shelter, and helping with the stray dogs projects by providing fund-raising for partner organisations working alongside Kay Garnay for Nepal. I have an invested interest in this NGO as the village and its people are very close to my heart.
