Two students who come to classes on Saturday to learn more advanced Microsoft Office skills have achieved 100% in their recent test.
I put together the programme over August to December 2016 after consultation with local businesses in Luang Prabang. The course focuses on Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and other topics such as anti-virus, safety and security.
Students come at 9am or 11am every Saturday and many attend Monday to Friday throughout the week as well. They are very committed and eager to learn. It is a challenge for David to write the lessons and activities required for the 10 month programme.
Students can also borrow laptops to use in their own time. Many of these are laptops donated by New Zealanders and transported by myself.
The course aims to up-skill students in computer skills useful for future education and employment. Students all have scholarships to attend free classes.
After 3 months volunteer work in Laos students are now attending Saturday classes to study Word and Excel.
With the donated laptops taken, students can also borrow a laptop to practice at their home.
