Effective Altruism NZ Charity Registration

Effective Altruism is a concept that is growing internationally & in NZ. See http://effectivealtruism.nz/ We want to start an Effective Altruism NZ Charity, and gain donee & Schedule 32 status, allowing tax deductions for gifts to this charity, that are then given 100% to the current EA charities overseas. (eg http://www.givewell.org/charities/top-charities - Anti-Malaria, Deworming etc).

We have a top charity lawyer who is willing to help establish this Trust. Her cost estimates are $3k for the initial trust deed, $2k for approval as a charity in NZ, and $2k to oversee the process of gaining Schedule 32 status. We have a business willing to gift money to this charity as soon as it is established. And we have volunteers who will donate their time for administration - so 100% of what is given in NZ to this EA Charity will go the identified charities overseas.

So .. this project is just to raise the funds for the initial establishment of the EA Charity. Donations for this are going through The Make A Difference Charitable Trust in NZ - so your donations for this cause are tax-deductible (receipts will be issued)

This charity is important, as in the years ahead, it will allow tax-effective donations to charitable causes overseas, increasing the amount of money that can be given to these great causes
