I am a 19 year old Kiwi curler on a mission to represent New Zealand at the World Curling Championships in 2015.
Nationwide
New Zealanders, especially New Zealand women are extremely under-represented in the sport of Curling at World and Olympic level. Please help me break this trend and support my endeavour to represent New Zealand women at the World Championships in 2015.
My name is Eleanor and I have been selected to represent New Zealand at the Pacific-Asia Curling Championships (PACCs) to be held in Karuizawa, Japan (8th-16th November 2014) and at the Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships (PAJCCs) to be held in Naseby, New Zealand (15th-25th January 2015).
My goal is to use these international championships as a platform to qualify for the World Women Championships and World Junior Championships in 2015.
I discovered the Olympic sport of Curling in 2009 at the age of 13, at the Auckland Secondary School's Curling Have-A-Go night where soon after, this hobby quickly became my true passion. 5 years on, Curling has taken me around the world with the Silver Fern on my back, having been a New Zealand representative since 2011.
I have competed for New Zealand at the 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games (2011), at 3 consecutive Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships (2012, 2013, 2014) and at the Inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games (2012).
The tight-knit New Zealand Curling community is steadily growing as more and more people take interest in the sport, however it is incredibly difficult to reach international goals when there is zero to minimum financial support for international representatives like me. The fact that the only dedicated Curling rink in New Zealand is in Naseby, Central Otago has made it very expensive to train with my team while studying in Auckland.
Your support in my endeavours will go a long way towards covering uniforms, airfares, accommodation and meal costs for 14 days in Karuizawa, Japan and 25 days of training and competing in Naseby, New Zealand.
Help me spread the word about my cause to your friends, family and connections on social media. I look forward to practicing, playing hard and making New Zealand proud. Go Team NZ!!
