An electric wheelchair would help me dramatically.
Waikato
Dear friends, family and strangers,
I can confidently say that I have not spoken to any of you in a while.
My life dramatically changed in 2010. Out of nowhere I became unbelievably ill. I went from being extremely fit, to not even being able to walk a few steps or speak a few words. I have Fibromyalgia and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. They are extremely unpredictable conditions. One month I can walk around pain free, the next I'm bedridden with extreme pain and fatigue. I experience remission and relapse phases. The photo I selected is from a remission phase. It was so good, I thought I'd cured myself. I relapsed a few months later.
After trialing an electric wheelchair for a week, I have realized that it would significantly improve my quality of life. It would give me a lot of mobility. If you can contribute to my goal, I would be extremely appreciative.
So... what is it?
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is a devastating multi-system disease that causes dysfunction of the neurological, immune, endocrine and energy metabolism systems. The effects of ME are devastating enough to leave 25% of patients housebound or bedbound.
Severe fibromyalgia is a debilitating pain disorder of the central nervous system. Pain patterns are completely unpredictable and vary in extremities. One suffering the condition is often fully dependent on family to carry out day to day tasks, depending on remission/relapse.
All money raised will go directly towards the wheelchair. Once I have enough, I will be able to purchase it.
Here is the chair! 11 October 2018
I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me purchase my electric wheelchair. It's one of the hugest helps I've had in the past 8 years. The past 6 months have been one of the most difficult times of my illness. From needing mum to brush my teeth and dress me, to crawling to get around, countless seizures, incredible pain, crazy bloating, extreme sensitivity to light, sound & touch, not to mention the difficulty to breathe most of the time. (And that's just some of my symptoms!)
I have never shared pictures of me at my worst, as I prefer to only show the better times. I would find posting a video of me in extreme pain too disturbing.
A few things everyone should know about my wheelchair and why it's awesome:
-Since having my chair, I've been able to go outside and explore, sit in the sun & go window shopping. It has taken a lot of strain and stress away, especially when it comes to outings. Usually I can't focus on anything but pain and hoping that I don't collapse, the wheelchair ensures that I don't have to crawl anymore & that I wont fall flat on my face!!!
– This thing can go pretty fast. It can feel like I'm jogging when I'm in it. I feel the wind across my face and through my hair. I have a sensation of motion, of spontaneity that I haven't had since getting MECFS/Fibro.
-Its ridiculously comfortable which is hard for my tail bone to find!!
-When in public, people help instead of unknowingly shove & bump into me causing pain.
-It has a horn on it, which I've already pushed to the tune of "jingle bells" & "Happy Birthday."
Once again, thank you so much. I'm currently taking frequent b12 injections and finding A LOT of relief from 'medical' marijuana (canabidiol oil.) xoxo
I'm going to write everyone's names that donated, into a card to keep in my wheelchair pocket. Thank you sooo much, I will be thinking of you all. xoxo
Thanx Clifford!! <3
