Elias’ journey continued to kidney transplant.

  • Another infection for Elias.

      13 December 2025

Elias was admitted for an infection in his peritoneal drain and severe respiratory distress.

We have a new antibiotic to give via his port until an unknown date and then a prophylactic from there to hopefully manage further infections.

Due to this infection Elias became too unwell for his CT & MRI, the dye would have been too much for his kidney and we can’t run the risk of any more damage.

All future plans are on hold until after Christmas. We are aiming to avoid any admissions or treatments until the new year.

In the meantime, Brandon (Eli’s dad) is going through the transplant process.

We’ve since learnt this is a one person process and ask anyone that was willing or interested to help, please wait until we know where we’re at(:

Elias was able to explore the activity room this admission, which he loved!

These sessions bought him so much happiness 🩶

Thank you for following Eli’s fight.

The support means everything to us.

  • October update

    Update on Elias 🩶

    October was rough.

Elias had a 6 week admission in the end.

3 weeks of port antibiotics and is home with 2 drains.

We have doubled in meds and Elias needs twice as much fluids.

One drain is relieving pressure from his kidney. The other is draining his stomach.

Elias will be put under GA next Monday (8/12) for an MRI and dye CT scan.

From here the team can work out a plan moving forward how to safely remove these drains from Eli and hopefully have it set up from the inside of him.

We feel he’s had enough recovery time and we hope to have Elias moving around more freely and comfortable before Christmas.

We are back to donor testing in the meantime. This was put on hold while Elias become unwell. We met with starship last week and were advised to try get back to where we were with all this.

Overall, Elias is more himself and has adapted so well given what he goes through.

Thank you for supporting us 🩷🩶

  • October surgery update 🩶

      29 October 2025
    Main image

This is not the best update we were hoping to give for wee Elias.

Eli’s surgery wasn’t the success we were hoping for, it resulted in another 3 surgeries, 2 being emergency and an ICU stay when we were not able to get any of his blood pressure under control. None of the surgery’s seem to have worked in the way intended.

We’re now 3 weeks into this hospital stay and Elias has become extremely unwell following each surgery.

He is battling an internal fungal infection, peritonitis, dehydration and to top it off has just tested positive for Parainfluenza.

Our biggest struggle is keeping Elias comfortable from pain.

All further surgeries will be held off so he can heal and the goal plan will be to remove some drains and get home for some much needed family time, healing time, and recharge time.

As always, we thank you for following Eli’s fight, the prayers, donations, sharing the word and kindness we receive back.

    Xxx

  • Elias’ port and pyeloplasty surgery

      13 October 2025
    Main image

On Friday Elias had another surgery to have a new port placed and a stent in his kidney.

They managed to operate on a blockage higher up (UPJ) and after a long 7 hour surgery, successfully place a stent which had failed 2 times in previous surgery’s.

Elias has had a slow recovery battling high blood pressure needing oxygen support and a blood transfusion, this has landed us in high care longer than anticipated.

Elias is now to undergo another surgery this week to help his bladder due to another finding missed on his latest surgery.

This has knocked Eli’s only kidney a huge amount so we’re unsure how this will play out. So far it’s not responding as great as we would like.

Elias is just so brave. Resting and listening to his favourite singer Lewis Capaldi all day. We are just so proud of this sweet wee boy🩵

  • September update and findings for Elias

      6 September 2025
    Main image

Since Eli’s Starship hiccup, we had a meeting with the team in Christchurch the following week and they decided the work up for pre transplant would be back on.

Elias had a plan for a pyeloplasty surgery (a stent in the kidney) to take place and the removal of his nephrostomy drain but he ended up admitted with a 3 way UTI , low potassium levels and blocked port.

We’re giving Elias some time to recover and then this can go ahead aswell as another port revision.

During Eli’s appointment we learnt he has a PUJ obstruction as well as PUV. This is a new finding for us all and makes a lot of sense as to why he has lost his right kidney and has such critical function to his left plus all the damage in between.

Attached is a link explaining more about PUJ

As always, thank you all for following and your continued support.

  • Visit to star ship

      9 August 2025

Grace, Brandon and Elias landed safely last Sunday afternoon, 3rd of august.

They had their first of many appointments beginning at 10:30am the next morning where it was discovered Elias' nephrostomy drain was not working as intended causing it to leak urine internally. This had also produced swelling around his kidney (he only has one).

All plans for pre transplant were cancelled and the surgeon team at Starship had been contacted to sought an opinion on what next.

Eli had bloods, xrays and an ultrasound which led to the decision of going forward with a surgery at star ship.

Once it was safe he had a hospital transfer and back home to recover.

Monday we are back in hospital for Eli’s weekly check of bloods and a review and a talk about the latest in Auckland and where to from here.

  • Elias makes the press!

      31 July 2025
    Main image

Elias drew so much attention to his condition that we were approached by the press this last week and he made it to the front page!

This has raised so much awareness and the offers for donating have been huge.

This week we leave for starship to meet the teams for the next steps to get Elias a new kidney.

We are currently getting on top of all these extra vaccines that he needs for this, including blood work and cross matching done for anyone willing to participate in the kidney donation.

Since elis’ nephrostomy surgery he has been eager to trial eating more solids, this just shows how much more of a difference it will make when he gets a new kidney, as this temporary fix has made such an improvement already.

We have been so overwhelmed with the donations on his give a little and are slowly trying to individually thank everyone for their contributions.

We are so grateful for everyone following and supporting us, we will update as we go, when we can🫶🏽

That's so wonderful to hear thank you. I am praying for precious Elias.

  • Nephrostogram

      23 July 2025
    Main image

Early yesterday morning 22/7 Elias underwent a nephrostogram.

This is where a dye has been placed into his nephrostomy drain and up into his bladder.

Here they have found due to his high pressure bladder system, he has perforated his renal tract, twice! ):

The first time this managed to fix itself after the help of a surgery. This time it has not and there is a hole higher up.

In a few weeks, once Elias has recovered from his most recent surgery, another surgery will go ahead for a stent to be placed. This has been tried twice before with no success so a new approach will be used this time.

Hopefully after this things can start looking a bit more clearer as to what the future will bring.

  • Port fix/kidney drain surgery.

      18 July 2025
    Main image

Elias had a 5+ hour surgery on the 17th of July to fix his port & place a nephrostomy drain in his kidney.

This was done because Eli’s kidney had burst from the back pressure of his bladder, this will now buy him some time before having a surgery to repair his bladder and hopefully get us to transplant.

We can already tell Elias is so much more happier and it shows as his creatinine has dropped in the space of a few hours, significantly.

We are hoping for a short hospital stay.

Elias continues to show us just how brave and strong he is post op.
