From the age of nine I started asking my parents if we could sponsor a child. Now I am 15, I have decided to sponsor one myself.

I am choosing to donate money to So They Can…. So The children in Nakuru, Kenya Can go to school, Can eat enough food and Can be educated.

From the age of nine I started asking my parents if we could sponsor a child. We would think about it, but never actually acted on it. So now, at the age of fifteen, I’ve decided that it is time. It’s time for me to give back, to those who need it. I started by brainstorming ideas. In the end I settled on a race, the Peak to Peak competition. I want to raise $800 to look after a child for a year.

I am going to do the Peak to Peak race in a family team. My little brother, Liam (age nine), will be starting us off by doing the downhill ski with my stepfather, Darren. Darren will then do the downhill mountain bike, leading into (Floortje) my mother's kayak. After the kayak I will do the 10km run and lastly Mum will do the uphill road bike to the finish.

We are in this race to win. Not necessarily the event itself, but we win by fundraising and helping children in Africa.

I chose to do a race as a way of raising money, because from a young age I would watch my Mum race. I have always admired her and wanted to follow suit, but never had the will. I don’t carry her really sporty genes, instead I’m more artistic. So at school sports events, or PE I would have expectations set by the teacher because of my athletic mother. I would always feel like I let them down, and it’s one of my most hated feelings.

So I took the opportunity to start getting into multi sport and helping children. With the children always at the forefront of my mind, they are my energy, they are what keep me going, they are my motivation.

Thanks you so much for joining me and helping me reach this dream of mine.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
