I will be volunteering in Cambodia working alongside mistreated elephants and creating better living conditions for remote communities.
Waikato
During the first week I will work alongside village leaders, who set priorities that aim to improve the lives of their villagers and the overall community. We spend time with children and orphans during or after school to enhance life-skills. We are guided by local craftsman to help build classrooms or shelter for families. For the second week we are based in an elephant sanctuary where the elephants have been rescued from the logging industry and have previously been mistreated. They are free to roam, eat and swim trying to be and behave as the elepant they are. This sanctuary requires a lot of upkeep such as harvesting and replanting of food supplies, improving infrastructures and general maintenance which is what I will be a part of. I will also have the perfect opportunity to bath, feed and hang out with the elephants every single day.
My involvement within this project is to create better living conditions for remote communities and help rehabilate elephants by having a meaningful impact on all.
I am aiming to raise NZD $1000, which will cover the cost of building materials, contributions to the local families including soil, fruits and vegetables, as well as accomodation and food for myself during the trip.
