Elleanor is 12, and an awesome Power Tumbler. Selected for the NZ Team travelling to the 2016 Australian Nationals, she needs your help!
Northland
Elleanor grew up in the sport of Competitive Cheerleading from the age of six. It didn’t take long for people to realize that she had a particular interest and talent for doing flips and tricks! Elleanor went on to win multiple titles in cheerleading, including the U13 Australasian Majors Tumbling Champion at the age of only nine.
Transitioning from the world of cheerleading to Artistic Gymnastics, Elleanor still found that her love and main focus was tumbling. Having only one club in the city to offer Power Tumbling as a specific sport, we decided to move gyms and drive 1.5 hours each way across the city twice a week to get her to training. Elleanor won the National title for Power Tumbling at the 2014 National Gymsport Championships in the U13 Age division, and came home with a silver medal for the Sub Junior International division at the 2015 Nationals.
Sadly in 2014 after Nationals, the one and only local Power Tumbling coach, left the gym and discontinued coaching. We decided that we needed to make Elleanor’s dream happen by ourselves. Now that we live in the Far North I, her mum, am Elleanor’s coach. Using the resources that I have picked up over the years, and thanks to the wonderful support from the Kaitaia Gymnastic Club management, I have been able to gain some coaching credits on the way to becoming a fully qualified coach, so that Elleanor can continue to grow in her sport, and so that I will be able to offer coaching of this fantastic sport to other kids in the future.
Elleanor has now been selected to be part of the NZ team to travel to the Australian Nationals in May! It's a very exciting opportunity for her, as she has never competed Power Tumbling outside of NZ, and this type of international competition could pave the way for her ultimate dream - to represent NZ at Worlds.
Elleanor has worked her butt off for the last six years of her childhood, changed gyms, changed sport codes, changed cities and still she commits to the amazing talent that is her tumbling. Wherever she goes, this is the thing that she is meant to be doing, without a doubt! We hope that you will be inspired by Elleanor’s story, so that she, in turn, can inspire other Kiwi Kids with big dreams, big hearts and awesome talent. We really appreciate your helping in any way you can to make her dream of competing internationally in Power Tumbling a reality, and for getting her to Melbourne for the 2016 Australian Gymnastics Nationals!
I'm Elleanor's mum, and since she became without coach in 2014, I've stepped in to do help her along with her training. I'm currently studying toward being an official tumble coach so I can keep helping her, and help grow the sport of Power Tumbling.
