My name is Ellen Schroeder. I am 18 years old and have had the honour of being selected to represent NZ in the Trans-tasman Under 21 series. This series involves us taking on the Aussies head to head over the course of two regattas; one in Sydney and one at Lake Karapiro.

I began my rowing journey 3 years ago, having represented Waikato Dio for my first two years and the Waikato Regional performance Centre for my third year. Since starting off as an U17 novice in 2014 I have learnt so many valuable lessons that not only apply to rowing but everyday life. After a successful first year for rowing, in which I won 3 gold medals for novice events at the national Maadi regatta, I thought I knew what was needed in order to excel and achieve. However, it wasn't until my u18 season, where I faced the challenge of going up against rowers with three times the experience I had, that I understood the true meaning of perseverance, determination and resilience. Although I unfortunately didn't medal during that season I continued to strive forward and was selected for the Waikato Regional Performance Centre squad.

Being apart of the NZ u21 squad entails so much more than just representing my country. During the campaign I will be involved in two 2 week long camps in which the team lives together at Karapiro and trains out of the Rowing New Zealand facilities. I am very excited and humbled to train alongside other NZ rowers, Juniors through to Elites and Olympians, as we strive for the common goal of making our nation proud.

In order to make the most of this opportunity a travel and living cost of $2,000 needs to be covered; one that I am unfortunately unable to fulfil on my own due to a demanding full time training schedule. I am immensely grateful for the continuous support of my friends, family, my club, school, and home community of Hamilton in helping me pursue my dream of representing my country. Use of funds

All funds raised will go directly to travel costs and living costs during the campaign.
