Urgent emergency response Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) and trailer required on Kawau Island - this will be a lifesaver!
Auckland
For decades, Kawau Island has been an extremely popular destination. In addition to the permanent residents, the island population swells by many thousands during the summer months with day visitors, overseas tourists, and holidaymakers. Kawau Island is also a very popular destination for groups of school children, many of whom stay for extended periods at Camp Bentzon.
When it comes to fire and emergencies, Kawau Island is fortunate enough to have its own local volunteer FENZ brigade, which is the only agency on the island.
For the local FENZ team, 90% of the callouts are medical and range from broken legs, cracked ribs, strokes, severed fingers, head injuries from falls, boating accidents, crushed limbs, sting ray barbs, through to severe injuries from building site accidents, back injuries, burns, severe trauma from accidents and heart attacks.
Our volunteer fire and medical responders must be able to reach the various Island locations to render vital first-response care. In many cases, they also have to transfer the patient to a water taxi or helicopter to get them to a hospital.
A fit-for-purpose light utility vehicle (LUV) plus trailer for fire response, medical call-outs and helicopter landing zone preparations is required on Kawau Island. We are asking for your help to raise funds to purchase a vehicle for our volunteer brigade.
This vehicle could literally be a lifesaver! Help us so we can, in turn, help you or your loved ones when the need arises - many thanks!
Kawau Emergency Response trust
KERT undertakes fundraising activities to provide fire and emergency response equipment to enable the volunteer emergency response team deal with bush fires and serious medical emergencies, some life threatening.
All funds raised will go towards the purchase of an emergency response Light Utility Vehicle (LUV) and trailer for use in responding to fire and medical emergencies around Kawau Island, carrying emergency response team members and patient transfer to helicopter or wharf.
You may have intended to donate but life got in the way? 11 December 2025
Hi All
Often people intend to do something to assist a good cause but other things compete for attention and it gets overlooked. This update is to let you know that we have extended the closing date for this givealittle page so there is still time to make a donation (or even let others know about our page so they can help out). This is such a worthy cause and we are still somewhat short of the target. Please help us spread the word by forwarding the givealittle link to your contacts. And if you have meant to donate yourselves but not gotten around to it then feel free to make a donation now. And to all those who have already donated we send a huge "Thank you!!!". Merry Xmas :)
Many thanks Simon, your donation is very much appreciated!
