Help us fund our 20 week DBT/Life Skills group; a programme for people who struggle with intensely difficult emotions.

Auckland

About the group:

The DBT/ Life Skills Programme is a very effective way of learning how to deal with such issues as depression, anxiety, overly intense emotions, relationship difficulties, self harm and suicidal thinking. It is based primarily on the strategies and skills of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), sensory modulation theory and self compassion training. It incorporates learning ways to manage and soothe emotional upheaval.

Mental health:

Only three percent of the population are able to be seen at their local Community Mental Health Centres. This means that there are thousands of people suffering who have to cope with their highly stressful lives without appropriate care. Many people in New Zealand are unable to afford necessary treatment in the community and many get referred to this group by DHB Crisis Teams and GP’s.

About Counselling and Psychotherapy Takapuna:

We are a group of practitioners who are committed to providing treatment for people who struggle with emotional difficulties. Myself, Kathryn Ryan, registered psychotherapist, and Nicola Harvey, registered nurse clinician, and other clinicians, have been running these groups for the last 10 years. http://www.counsellingandpsychotherapytakapuna.co.nz/

The funds currently will go to cover the cost of 4 participants who have requested to attend, but who cannot afford to pay for this programme. The participant fees we charge pay for the cost of the two facilitators for two hours, rental for the lounge and facilities we use, the cost of the food we provide (for hunger and therapeutic use), and the cost of an admin/preparation person. This programme does not make a profit.

Kathryn (Joan) Ryan's involvement (page creator)

I am no longer involved in these groups (other than occasionally presenting,) but am responsible for their organisation and participant assessments. Again, this programme is not a profit making business - we cover our costs only.

Use of funds

Money raised will go towards costs associated with our DBT/Life Skills Programme. This will be used for those who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend. We run approximately three 20 week groups annually. www.lifeskillsprogramme.co.nz.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
