Empowering Tony - Supporting a Young Sailor's Journey

My son Tony is 13 years old, from Auckland. Tony is honored to be representing New Zealand this July at the Optimist European Championship Regatta, being held in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Tony loves all aspects of sailing and has been sailing competitively for the last 4 years and dedicate most of his weekends to time on the water, training, and racing around the country.

This year he made top 10 at the NZ Optimist nationals. Some of his other major achievements include being first in Auckland Winter Sprint Series 2022, top 5 in The Allianz New Caledonia Optimist Championship 2022, No. 6 in the NZIODA Interislander Regatta 2023, and winning 2 races in the 2023 NZIODA Optimist Nationals.

To compete at the Euro Champs, each sailor needs to contribute $12000+ for travel, accommodation, boat hire, coach support, as well as the cost associated with support staff. Even more money-consuming is the fact that at least one parent has to go with him as a guardian at an extra cost.

We are reaching out for any financial help to help get him to Greece - and he would be hugely grateful for any assistance, no matter how small. Tony wishes he could represent NZ not only at the Optimist Euro Champs but also at other International Regattas in the Optimist class and beyond in the future.
