Gertina Theunissen, a citizen of New Zealand has faced the devastating effects of Cataracts.
In December 2022, Ena had gone for her routine eye checkup at her local Specsavers. She had been battling with her vision for months on end! She had noticed a deterioration in her vision from her last visit in July 2022. After her routine checkup in December, she was faced with the devastating news of bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts in both her eyes.
This had not been Ena's first delivery of devastating news, in August 2019 she had a cancerous cyst removed from her pancreas. The chronic medication prescribed to her by doctors, has now resulted in her deterioration of her vision and is now facing the effects of bilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts in both her eyes.
Ena now requires surgery to have the aggressive cataracts removed from both her eyes!
She has been placed on the state's surgery waiting list, however, the approximate time frame to get an appointment with the state is 19 weeks and counting.
Working for 17 years in New Zealand, Ena is tasked as the breadwinner and now requires finances to have her surgery done privately. This has been estimated at $15 000 to have this surgery completed and for Ena to return to her work and livelihood. Ena has experienced a severe and drastic loss of income over the past few months as she is unbale to work or complete any of her daily life duties.
All money raised will be spent on Gertina's eye surgery.
